Mediterranean Steak and Cheese
Ingredients:
- Chuck Roast (1.5 LBS)
- Yellow Onion (1 Small)
- Green Bell Pepper (1)
- Salt (1 TSP for Meat) AND (1/2 TSP for onion/pepper)
- Black Pepper (1/2 TSP for Meat) AND (1/4 TSP for onion/pepper)
- All Spice (1 TSP)
- Butter (1 TBSP) for meat
- Vegetable Oil (1 TBSP for meat) AND (1 TBSP for onion/pepper)
- Water (4 Cups)
- Shredded Provolone Cheese (As needed)
- Pita Bread (about 6)
Directions:
- Cut up beef chuck roast into 2 inch pieces. Put salt and black pepper on each side.
- In a large sauce pan, put 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil on high heat.
- After butter has melted, add the beef and sauté both sides for about 2-4 minutes each.
- Then add 4 cups of water to the beef and bring to a boil.
- When the water boils, set the heat to medium and let the meat cook for about an hour and a half or until meat is tender.
- When the meat has completely cooked, remove it with a strainer and save the beef broth.
- Cut up one onion and one green bell pepper into julienne uniform cuts.
- In a medium sauté pan, add one tablespoon of vegetable oil and set heat on high.
- Add the chopped onions and green bell peppers to the oil and set the heat on medium/high.
- Sauté them for about 10 minutes. Then add, salt and pepper to taste and one teaspoon of all spice and combine and stir frequently.
- Add the cooked meat to the onions and peppers.
- Mix everything together and remove from heat right away.
- Assemble everything. Chopped or shredded provolone cheese in one bowl, broth, meat mix and pita bread.
- First add the meat mix, then add the cheese and wrap the sandwich good enough and close the ends so that nothing falls off.
- In a panini machine, place the sandwich in there for a couple of minutes. If you do not have a panini machine then just place it on a Sauté pan and put pressure on the top of the sandwich with a plate or something heavy. Do the same on the other side.
- Cut the sandwich in half and dip it in the sauce/ broth. Enjoy 🙂
